Refuge burned in 2019 — bivouac/tent only at 1570 m. Stunning sunset views over the Cinto massif. Warden sells drinks & packed lunches; outdoor kitchens; spring water.
The place
You arrive at Ortu di u Piobbu with the first day's climb still burning in your calves, and the site rewards you immediately: a grassy shelf at 1,570 m where tents bloom like coloured mushrooms and the whole Cinto massif turns copper at sunset. The old refuge burned down in 2019, so this is canvas country now — which, on a clear evening, feels less like a downgrade and more like front-row seating.
Pitch early to claim a flat spot, then join the ritual: boots off, cold drink from the warden's hut, and a slow appraisal of tomorrow's ridgeline while dinner simmers in the outdoor kitchens. The spring water here is deliciously cold. When night falls the sky does its enormous Corsican thing — no light pollution, just stars stacked to the horizon — and you'll understand why nobody's in a hurry to zip the tent shut.
