Bocca di Verdi (San Petru)
Mountain pass with the welcoming Relais San Petru gite.

Mountain pass with the welcoming Relais San Petru gite. Meals, small shop, spring water. Road access (D69) makes this a possible entry/exit point.
The place
Bocca di Verdi is a proper mountain pass in the old sense: a saddle in the forest where a road sneaks over the divide and travellers have always paused. The Relais San Petru gite sits right on the col among tall pines, its terrace scattered with packs and boots, spring water running cold from the fountain, and the smell of pine resin and grilled lunch mixing agreeably in the air.
Because the D69 crosses here, this is one of the south's easiest entry and exit points — you'll share the terrace with day-trippers whose clean shirts will briefly fascinate you. But don't let the tarmac fool you into complacency: directly above rises the long, sweating climb to Refuge de Prati and the start of the great southern ridge. Most hikers sleep here, start at first light, and are rewarded with the climb in shade and the ridge in morning gold.
