The last refuge — quiet, scenic spot in the forest at 1055 m with views of the Bavella needles behind you. Snacks, water, and the finish line beckoning.
The place
Paliri is the trail's last refuge, and it behaves like it knows the assignment: a small, pretty hut on a forested shelf at 1,055 m, looking back at the Bavella needles glowing behind you and forward — though you can't quite see it yet — toward the sea and the end. The air is different down here, warmer and resinous, loud with crickets; after weeks of high granite, it smells unmistakably like the finish.
The mood on the terrace in the evening is one of the GR20's sweetest: quiet, valedictory, a little disbelieving. Hikers who have shared bunkrooms since Calenzana swap contact details and count blisters like medals. Watch the last light catch the towers of Bavella, sleep well, and don't rush the morning — tomorrow's walk to Conca is short and mostly downhill, and there is no prize for arriving at the bar before it opens.
